Job Description
Job Overview:
The Assistant Curator of Photography will develop, research, exhibit, teach about, and cultivate community interest in VMFA’s photography collection and programs, supporting the Aaron Siskind Curator on all activities related to the Photography Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement curatorial responsibilities for photography exhibition projects, conduct research on collection objects, produce publications, assist with departmental duties, represent VMFA at events, and promote engagement with the Photography Department.

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge and skills typically obtained through a Master’s Level academic curriculum in Art History with a concentration in the History of Photography or equivalent experience; thorough knowledge of photographic history; curatorial experience in an art museum setting; demonstrated track record of supporting or organizing photography exhibitions; fluency with collection management systems; excellent organizational skills.

Educational Background:
Master’s Level academic curriculum in Art History with a concentration in the History of Photography or equivalent level of practical experience and/or training.

Experience:
Curatorial experience, preferably in an art museum setting, with a focus on photography; experience handling and cataloguing photographs in a curatorial or collections-based role.

Languages:
English
