Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will support the Nigeria country team in delivering Tearfund's communications activities. This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in storytelling, media engagement, content creation, and strategic communication in a humanitarian and development context.
Duties and Responsibilities: Support the production of stories, photos, and videos that highlight Tearfund's work and impact. Assist with the production of social media content, newsletters, and website updates. Support media monitoring and prepare basic communications reports if necessary. Help organise events, campaigns, or visibility activities. Learn from and assist the Communications Unit and/or any relevant staff as well as the wider team in strategic communication planning. Support the development of content for campaigns, donor communications as needed.
Required Qualifications: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Interest in humanitarian, development, or faith-based work. Creativity and willingness to learn. Alignment with Tearfund's Christian values and ethical standards. Oral and written proficiency in the primary working local language. Fluent and competent in written and spoken English. Able to prioritise. Good organisational and scheduling skills. Computer literate – experience of Word, Excel and an accounting software preferable Peachtree. Ability to communicate confidently and comfortably about own personal faith. Ability and commitment to apply biblical principles prayerfully within all aspects of the role. Outstanding organisational and investigative abilities. Good interpersonal attitude. A calm, confident, assertive and welcoming manner. Giving attention to hygiene. Able to take initiative and be flexible. Committed Evangelical Christian. Humanitarian & Christian motivation. Committed to an Evangelical Christian church. Open to corrections and suggestions.
Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
Experience: Desirable skills include basic photography, graphic design and video editing skills. Familiarity with social media management. Knowledge of Nigerian languages (Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo) is an advantage. Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn. Collaborative and culturally sensitive. Committed to ethical storytelling and amplifying community voices. Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic team environment.
Languages: Oral and written proficiency in the primary working local language and fluent in written and spoken English.
Additional Notes: The communication Intern will receive a stipend of NGN 77,000.00 on a monthly basis.
