Job Description
Job Overview:
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria nationals for the position of Senior Research Associate at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and improve efficiency in maize breeding nurseries and field operations including screening germplasm for key traits such as drought, low nitrogen, heat, Striga, and fall armyworm resistance. Manage crossing nurseries and new hybrid development, oversee Regional Variety Trials (RVT) and Multi-Environment Trials (MET), support genomic selection and marker-assisted selection strategies, manage field teams and technical staff, contribute to scientific publications, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
MSc in Agricultural Science, Plant Science, Crop Science, Biotechnology, or related courses with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a similar role.
Educational Background:
MSc in Agricultural Science, Plant Science, Crop Science, Biotechnology, or related courses.
Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years’ performing a similar role in a well-structured environment. Experience in plant breeding is an added advantage.
Languages:

Additional Notes:
The ideal candidate must have strong analytical and quantitative skills, proficiency in R programming language statistical software, high level of organization, ability to work collaboratively, solid understanding of breeding pipeline design, project and team management skills, and effective communication skills.
