Chief Accountant

Job Overview:
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, proper asset and project accounting, effective cost control, and full compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Fixed Assets, Spare Parts, Payroll, and Bank Reconciliations. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing. Ensure proper revenue recognition from electricity sales. Oversee capitalisation, depreciation, and impairment of energy and infrastructure assets. Ensure correct classification between CAPEX and OPEX. Monitor operating and maintenance costs and analyse cost per kWh. Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Oversee accounts receivable ageing and collection performance. Prepare financial statements and management reports. Coordinate year-end audit activities and manage audit files. Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax regulations, and sector-specific requirements. Strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures. Coordinate with Internal and External Auditors within approved authority limits. Support system improvements in coordination with IT. Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by the Finance Director.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. 8 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in energy, infrastructure, or project-based companies. CPA certification preferred.
